May 18, 2009 Another assorted batch of jams that would fit in on the Saturday night weekly that I spin at w/ DJ Cashman, a few cover songs in the mix, always a favorite of mine along with a few standouts (the fascinations and the mini skirt track!). There were a couple of mixing fudge-ups due to a testy turntable, they shouldn't be too noticeable except the beginning of the Orlons track, which comes in a little too abruptly. Otherwise, a batch of tunes i quite enjoy and hope you do too! Just realized there are a few duplicates from other podcasts, sorry (they're just that good!) April 23, 2009 Here's another hour of 45's. A lot of favorites in here, a couple tracks that are new to me and of course there seems to always be a red heron, in this case the jewel akens track, doesn't totally jive with the rest of the batch but doesn't stink up the joint. a good track but maybe would fit in better in another mix, kind of like spaghetti sauce on cereal. The Lou Rawls track won't leave my head for a hundred reasons, his voice is so rich without being otis intense or marvin mellow, falls into a beautiful little listening cove where i just wade and take it in, hope it has the same effect on you. Enjoy the mix. Got a bunch more in the tubes, super heavy funk 45s, instrumental (mostly organ, some jazz) 45s, a 'world' music edition and a two volume early 90's hip hop session with my spinning partner Dj Cashman. March 30, 2009. Another podcast of heavy hitting 45s. Loosely themed these jams around love (usually in the pejorative) though there are a few truly uplifting moments. A couple of these singles are a little scratchy but nothing too grating and there are few moments of loud mixing, my apologies, i was using a backup mixer that's a bit temperamental. A couple of pretty obvious tracks on here, the bill withers sticking out as maybe the most likely candidate for 'just heard it on the radio' but that doesn't mean it's excluding from also being listed as 'the most heartbreaking of all.' Ultra heavy track. The Jan Bradley tune is also pretty huge but i've always had a soft spot for that song and it was only recently while poring over the label info did i notice that it was written by Curtis Mayfield which only further enamored me to the song. Menahan Street Band is flagged too; being the only instrumental AND the only track produced after the 1970's. Still a deep burner that gets me every time. The last two tracks, syl johnson and aaron neville are a particularly intense two-some, hope it's not too deep and dark of a note to leave the podcast on.
